A downloadable game
=========================================
This game is currently under construction for a jam and therefore accepting any feedback or questions!! Enemies can be too strong, or buffs might need fixing, but I wanted to get this first draft out asap.
Thank you so much for your support! :)))
=========================================
<m4d 6rutal> (Mad Brutal) is a one-page soul-lite ttrpg designed for Soul-Lite TTRPG Jam.
Story
Parry attacks, hack the doors, and defeat the boss!
The players are the Rangers who invaded a Dome, which is basically a tech dungeon with six locked doors and many monsters called Guardians. Behind the sixth door sits the Brain, the boss who obviously has a very high HP. The boss is strong. The Guardians start attacking the moment you walk in. They are also strong. Oh no.
But don't worry, you have your respawn point set. You fight and learn the enemies' coded attack patterns to parry while simultaneously deciphering the door.
By defeating the Brain, the Dome is fully conquered and the players win the scenario. The Rangers tell the stories of the victory. What are the consequences?
Quick Rules
This game requires a GM, who keeps the Guardians' Attack Patterns and other stats unseen by the players. They also describe their motions during combat to the players through the Attack Pattern table.
To proceed to the next level, you need to roll four dice of the current level (the Hacker Dice).
Every turn, players roll all non-hacker dice and put all resulting Hacker Dice aside; the rest become their dice pool.
They then pick a Parry Die (number) from the dice pool. If it matches the enemy's next attack, they parry it and deal damage back at them (this is your only damage source). Consecutive parries deal more damage.
As you collect four Hacker Dice, you hack open the door to the next level, also receiving a nice bonus. When the boss, who sits behind the sixth door, is defeated, a scenario concludes.
Soul-Lite View
At the beginning of a scenario, the Rangers can only see the enemies' GRIPS or FEET move. Taking hits gradually reveals their Attack Patterns as the same Guardians share the exact same pattern and start each combat with the same pattern. They consist of 6 (+1) attack actions.
Attack Patterns add a soul-lite feel to the game, though deaths are not as punishing (you get power-ups at the doors.). In the Bestiaries I am working on right now, you can find some enemies with different Attack Patterns and different skills (the first draft is out).
GMs are encouraged to create their original Guardians (There is some room to mess around with the parameters, but please be nice) and the combinations their attacks create can pose hazardous challenges to the Rangers.
I hope you enjoy the game. Should you have any questions, please let me know in the comments! Thank you so much for your support :)
